Thyren
Thyren has been around water all his life growing up on a river, fishing, playing and boating, which naturally lead him just over 12 years ago to Vancouver Island. He started his sea career with the Coast Guard Auxiliary out of Mill Bay while still in highschool, after which he pursued an education in Adventure Tourism in Sooke. After graduating from the program he spent the next 5 years on a sailing yacht teaching kids how to kayak, sail, and generally enjoy the West Coast. During this time he also sailed around Vancouver Island in the VanIsle Race, participated in the Swiftsure international yacht race and many smaller local regattas. After taking up a career in Swiftwater Rescue working around rivers, his love for the sea brought him to Ocean Ecoventures. Captain Thyren has been driving with our team for the past 5 years, his passion for our westcoast ecosystem is contagious and his love for the whales will leave you with an everlasting memory and appreciation for our Southern Resident Orcas.
